Yup.
I see why fandom calls it the Slash Dragon.

Yep, it IS. There was NO EXAGGERATION ON THAT POINT.

The first episode was obvious enough, but then it spouted that "two halves of a whole" thing, and...yup.

It's like somebody in the writers' room was like, "How can we acknowledge the *~*~*destiny*~*~* that everybody knows is ahead for these guys?" And somebody else was like, "I KNOW! We'll have a DRAGON that plays YENTA for them!" And the other writers were like, "COOL."

But when they took it to the money guy, he was like, "But a dragon'll have to be some kind of expensive special effect. Can't we just go for, like, a Mystic Elder? Or something else that's more, you know, human-shaped and castable?" And the writers were like, "But! YENTA DRAGON!"

And the money guy couldn't argue with that, so he signed off on it. On spending THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of POUNDS on a special effect that exists solely to tell Merlin that he and Arthur are MENT2B.

...It's a little bit amazing, is what it is.

This is why we LOVE the BBC. Seriously. They greenlight omnisexual aliens, shows about giant dinosaurs, and YENTA DRAGONS voiced by JOHN HURT.

I can't believe they're actually putting a BBC product on network tv, but it's awesome.

That...

That was the living, breathing epitomy of CRACKTASTICKNESS.

I mean...the language alone was enough to set off my giggle meter ("Okay", "Buy me a drink", and on and on...), but the dragon? Lord love a duck, that was hiLARious.

And next week! PLAGUE! Oh, this could save my summer, right here.

Yeah, they're not going out of their way to be Historically! Accurate!, are they? (Which is fine by me. I loved A Knight's Tale, after all.)

The dragon makes me shake my head in wry amusement. And ponder the Numbers Guy's wide-eyed horror when justification came from the writers' room in the form of, "Because WE WANT IT, OKAY???" *g*

I thought of you when the promo was all plaguey! And the voiceover guy (on CTV, anyway, I'm not sure what the text was on NBC) said, "...causes a witch hunt!" You have a wheelhouse, apparently. *g*

Oh, no, I was not expecting accuracy, and was enjoying playing "Spot the Anachronism" because I have to do that with my own writing so much and the writers here obviously just threw it to the wind and had fun with it. Crack! (My sister said, "I'm all for blind casting, but were there black people then?" and I told her--well, a) this is so clearly not an early medieval castle/setting/real world place (it has a Slash Dragon!), and b) actually, that's one of the *most* accurate things they did.)

And I love Anthony Head just looking like, "They're PAYING me to do this, people! Can you believe it?"

I did not hear that voiceover! OMG!!! No wonder this show has such a fan following--they are clearly tapped into the fannish hivemind and pulling our happiest crack right out of our brains.

Yes! I enjoy that *very* much. :)

I have it on good authority that this show is not shy about catering to various segments of fandom. We shall have to see how well it caters to us, in particular!

Then when you're like "obviously, that is the slash highlight of the season" an ep or two later you're like... seriously?

While I dearly love the hilarity of the slash dragon, I almost love his, "Bored now!" thing where he just peers at Merlin and then flies off, because General Hospital is on, obviously.

Ha! Yes. I also love how, while they did get budget approval on the Slash Dragon, it's obvious they only got *so much*, because he only flies off *one way*--same shot, same direction, same wing-beat--in both eps. Hee. *g*

When I saw it was airing on CTV I was hoping you'd be watching. But I didn't want to say anything to press the point. And now I'm thinking a quiet little \o/ because I'm in the library and have to pretend I'm still doing research (...on a Wincest paper, natch).

All I can say is: welcome to the crackfest. I'm looking forward to hearing/reading what you have to say about Uther.

The only reason I haven't watched it before now is because I didn't want to go to the hassle of obtaining it. I need to know beforehand that I'm gonna love something, or have some form of pre-existing investment in it before I go full-speed on ahemming. I was actually very pleased when I learned it was going to be on Actual TV over here!

I am looking forward to watching Uther. ASH woo!

Obtaining it, pfft. *waves hand* Small matter, small matter. Actually having the show in order to watch it... decadence, pure decadence.

Watching Uther, there's that little voice in the back of my head asking, "Why goes Giles hate magic." Sad but true.
