Spaniards have hijacked my email, and my TV's infested with Brits.
Merlin, 'Lancelot': as someone whose greater-than-it-deserves enjoyment of the recent-ish King Arthur movie is based mostly on the near-painfully gorgeous slashiness of Clive Owen's Arthur and Ioan Gruffudd's Lancelot, I was hoping for at least an echo of that sort of thing with Blondie and Mystery Sock.
Fortunately, I was not disappointed. *leer*
Unfortunately, my aunt called during the scene focusing on the other relationship I was interested in--the last scene between Lancelot and Gwen--so I missed whatever it was they said to each other. Not that I think I missed anything crucial; the Gwen-and-Lancelot of it all was nowhere near the point of this episode, and that's okay, 'cause it's early days yet in more ways than one. Nevertheless, I'm gonna hope Lancelot will come back for another, more Gwen-focused episode somewhere down the line.
When it comes to the Arthurian characters--regardless of interpretation, narrative POV, or whatever--my fealty lies with the Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot triumvirate (which, incidentally, intrigues me just as much when figured as Guinevere/Arthur/Lancelot), with the Arthur/Morgan(Morgana/Morrigan/whatever)

Torchwood: Children of Earth, Day One--
Ianto!* Gwen! Jack! Rhys!
I didn't know how much I missed you until you came back with good writing!
--I must give Mr Davies cookies: he took the one thing I found at all interesting and innovative about New Amsterdam (the immortal guy having a] mortal, adult children and b] an ongoing relationship with his mortal, adult children) and applied it to Captain Jack Harkness, Time Whore.
...there is no bad here. NONE WHATSOEVER. (Yes, yes, it's been done in fic, and that's all well and good. But it's a whole other ball of wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey stuff when it's canon. :) :) :)
--It saddened me when Rupesh turned out to be evil and died. I would have enjoyed watching him kiss people of various genders for the flimsiest of plot-necessitated reasons, had he gone on to become a regular.
--UNCLE IANTO. Many, many things about the scene with his sister and her kids delighted me utterly, not least of which was the total open-wallet policy he adopted the moment he set foot in their house. It's just...the more I think about it, the more it just...makes sense. ♥
And then! The coming-out conversation! (Or, well, the "Ianto is Jacksexual" conversation, as it were.) &Ianto; &Ianto; &Ianto;
...I had forgotten how much I enjoy saying "Ianto", even if only to myself. It is a fun name to say. Ianto Ianto Ianto Ianto Ianto
--I have no opinion on Gwen being pregnant, mostly because I have no idea a) whether the pregnancy will survive the miniseries, and if it does, b) how it would be integrated into the show in the future. All I know is that, generally, TW does not seem to have a great deal of time for the domestic lives of its central characters, so...yeah. Question marks!
--Lois hasn't done much yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing what role she has to play in this whole thing. (Maybe she'll turn out not to be evil, and go on to kiss people of various genders for the flimsiest of plot-necessitated reasons.)
--Martha! Honeymoon! Yay! (I appreciated that little mention. It made me squeeful. :)
I'm operating a day behind everybody else on this, so please don't discuss Day Two in my comments. Thank you!
*Dear
slodwick,
I can no longer hear the name "Ianto Jones" without mentally appending, "Sign my bra!"
Thanks for that,
Jayne
